Bellwork - Assessing home learning.

Ask students to pin up their home learning from the previous lesson on the wall. Print off enough of these assessment grids before the lesson. Display the assessment grid on the interactive whiteboard and explain to students how you want them to assess four other students home learning.

After a few minutes get students back to the front and ask for positive comments about the home learning.

Opportunities for ICT?

(1 hour) Click here for student friendly details. Students will work in their home teams of four. Each member will research in detail one environment (according to desk colour) using the resource islands and this web site. Each member will create a very detailed spider diagram using Inspiration. The spider diagram should contain details including the following:

  • what information the organisation keeps;

  • how it collects the information;

  • how it uses the information;

  • whether the way it uses the information is good for us;

  • whether the way it uses the information is bad for us;

  • whether the information is passed on to other organisations;

  • whether we can access the information held on us;

  • how it keeps the information safe.

Demonstrate Your New Understanding

Opportunities for ICT?

(4 x 5 minutes) Each team member should present their diagram and research to the rest of their team for five minutes. This should bring them up to speed so that each team member could answer questions about each of the four organisations.

Opportunities for ICT?

Each home team develops four colour coded questions; one for each environment. Home teams then pair up to form groups of eight students. The first home team ask their questions, of the opposition, BUT the specialist from each team cannot answer their coloured question.

Assessment for Learning During the Demonstrate section, teacher uses Post It notes for individual debrief.
