Enrichment and Community
Activities
Life at
CCHS goes well beyond the classroom.
There are
opportunities on offer to students who wish to take part
in activities after school and in the holidays. Sports
teams run at all age levels in football, rugby, cricket,
netball, basketball and athletics, and they are among the
most successful in the North-East. There are also
opportunities for students to take part in
5-a-sidetournaments, golf and tennis competitions as well
as receiving regular coaching to develop their individual
skills
.In
Performing Arts there are music, dance and drama clubs
taking place after school which lead up to major
productions.
Visits
abroad have also been popular with students. Football and
rugby teams have toured California and Italy, whilst there
is a regular ski trip abroad at February half-term. We
have developed strong links with Bettendorf High School in
Iowa, USA. Sixth Form students travel to Bettendorf and
spend two weeks living with American families learning
about their culture and visiting their school. The
American students in turn, visit Cramlington, staying with
local families, spending time in school and touring the
region.
Revision
classes take place after school in many subjects, giving
students the chance to go over topics with their teachers,
improve coursework or catch up on any work they may have
missed.
The
Community Education Department and youth workers provide a
wide range of after school activities for students. Many
of these are groups which students have asked to be set up
go-carting, girls’ football, baby sitting, and Duke of
Edinburgh Challenge. We expect all students to be involved
in after-school activities.
