Increase the range of science-based courses offered by our community education department

This is the area we are having most difficulty with!

Maybe, since you are reading this, you can help?

We had the most serious difficulty in terms of both recruiting staff to run courses, and in attracting enough of the community to fill places.

After much searching, a teacher was found to offer a short, introductory course in Astronomy, but despite a run of advertising through the local press, there was absolutely no community interest in this ten week course.

We are still looking seriously at ways of offering a number of science based courses, and are considering different strategies to make the community better aware of them. A successful Open Night in October 2003, for example, saw many members of the community visit the science department, to be impressed by the facilities and show interest of the courses we can offer.

As our reputation grows, and as we further assess the potential needs of the community, we are confident we can put the right courses on for the community and attract significant interest in terms of enrolments.

If you’d like to contribute suggestions in this area do please contact the Head of Science, Mr Brechin, at the school.
